Biography My name is Linda L. Tavares. I live and work in southern Maryland. I have been teaching fourth grade for three years and prior to this grade, I taught third grade. Background Information: I live in Brandywine, Maryland with my husband of 25 years. My two grown sons are away attending college at a nearby University. Prior to teaching I held several positions in the printing industry. I have been a typographer, editor, professional commercial artist, and a printing sales executive. Education: Associate of Arts Degree from Prince George's Community College Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland Master of Education in Instructional Technology Degree from the University of Maryland University College (in process, expected graduation date is August 2013).
I enjoy every subject I teach but am especially interested in Math and Social Studies and enjoy incorporating educational technology into my lessons. Teaching Philosophy: All students can learn but the way students learn best differs from student to student. Some students are visual learners and learn best through visual stimulus. Others are auditory learners and absorb information more readily through listening. Then there are students who need to move and interact with materials in order to learn best (kinesthetic learners). When creating and implementing a lesson, I try to incorporate as many of the modalities of learning as possible. In this way, students are invited to take part in lessons that encourage understanding and growth. The goal is to meet the student where they are, set the learning standard high, and guide the student along the way to meet the high expectations.
